While I still have you in my arms!

While I still have you in my arms…

I can hug you, kiss you and play with you. I can enjoy your innocent utterances that fill my heart with joy. I can be amazed and proud at all the little things you have learned. The energetic expressions that don’t ask for anything of earthly value in return. Just smiles and words of appreciation that light up your eyes. I can pick you up , have you jump on me from the bed as I catch you, pretend to lose to you in arm wrestling and let you win races. This moment of simple joy is ours for now. These fleeting moments that will wane and remain as memories of a distant past. I will remember them and cherish them and hope that you will too. As time morphs into days, weeks and years, life will give you a new direction, a new purpose in life. You and I will no longer play the games we once played. Words that once came easily may now need effort. There will be stresses and strains of a changing relationship, between father and son. Life, school, career, friends, newer priorities and a widening gap of unspoken and sometimes loud beliefs. A simple strand of joy now strained by the pull of an ever changing life. But for this moment….we can still enjoy the simplicity, the love, your priceless laughter from my silly made up stories. No worries about the future just happiness in this moment of time. So let me have this moment…… while I still have you in my arms!
